Who we are

What we collect

Location
ClearNight uses your device's location to fetch weather, atmospheric, and astronomical data for your area. When you save a spot, its coordinates are stored on our servers (via Supabase), tied to an anonymous account — no name, email, or other personal information is required. You can also add locations manually without granting location permission.

Push notification token
If you enable sky alerts, we store your device's push notification token on our servers so we can send you a notification when your sky clears up. This token is associated with an anonymous account — no name, email, or personal information is required. You can revoke this at any time by disabling notifications in Settings.

Anonymous account
To deliver alerts, ClearNight creates an anonymous account on your behalf using Supabase. This account has no username, email, or password — it exists solely to link your push token to your alert preferences. No personal information is attached.

Saved locations and preferences
Your saved locations are stored on our servers (via Supabase), tied to your anonymous account, so they\'re restored if you reinstall the app or switch devices. Display preferences (like units and night vision mode) are stored locally on your device only.

What we don't collect

• No name, email, or contact information
• No account login, name, or password required
• No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
• No analytics or crash reporting services
• No payment information — purchases are handled entirely by Apple

Third-party services

ClearNight uses the following third-party services to function:

• Open-Meteo — weather and atmospheric forecast data. Your approximate location coordinates are sent to fetch conditions. See their privacy policy.
• Supabase — backend infrastructure for storing push tokens and alert preferences. Data is stored in the United States. See their privacy policy.
• Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — used to deliver sky alerts to your device.

In-app purchases

ClearNight offers optional premium features through Apple's in-app purchase system. All payment processing is handled by Apple. We receive only a confirmation of the purchase — no card number, billing address, or payment details are shared with us.

Data retention

Your push token and alert preferences are retained as long as you have alerts enabled. If you disable all alerts, this data is no longer needed and can be deleted upon request. Local data on your device (saved locations, preferences) can be removed at any time by uninstalling the app.

Your rights

You can:

• Disable location access at any time in your device's Settings
• Disable push notifications at any time in your device's Settings
• Request deletion of any data we hold by emailing info@strangeglyph.com

Children

ClearNight is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
